Powercor Australia Selects GE Network Solutions’ Integrated SCADA and Outage Management System Solution

ATLANTA, GA. – February 27, 2002 – GE Network Solutions, a leading supplier of network solutions to the utilities industry, today announced that Powercor Australia, based in Melbourne, has signed an agreement to replace its existing SCADA system with a GE Network Solutions ENMAC system. The agreement also includes the purchase of additional Smallworld Core Spatial Technology and PowerOn Outage Management System (OMS) licenses.

“This is an exciting new project for us. Powercor Australia is the first company to select GE Network Solutions’ completely integrated suite of electrical products. We believe that this new level of integration of SCADA and outage management will provide customers like Powercor Australia with an unprecedented level of benefits,” said Neil Smith, GE Network Solutions’ manager of Utilities and Public Systems in Australia.

GE Network Solutions, a GE Power Systems business unit, was created recently from the integration of three GE companies – GE Smallworld, GE Harris and sofion AG – to provide customers with comprehensive, enterprise-wide network design, operation and management solutions.

The SCADA Replacement System (SRS) is a first-of-its-kind solution for GE. The resulting system will be a tightly integrated, off-the-shelf solution combining GE Network Solutions’ ENMAC SCADA system, Smallworld Core Spatial Technology, and PowerOn Outage Management System (OMS). This seamlessly integrated system will provide the most accurate, up-to-date electrical network data, while eliminating risks to data integrity and decreasing the length of electrical outages.

Powercor Australia’s current SCADA system was installed in 1983 and has reached the end of its useful life. When selecting a replacement SCADA system to help meet its goal of becoming a leading electricity distributor with an excellent standard of performance, Powercor Australia focused on the following evaluation criteria:

· A proven, standard, off-the-shelf product from a major, reputable vendor delivering world class SCADA/Distribution Management System (DMS) functionality

· A low cost solution

· Established Australian in-service experience, support, and project management

· A future DMS integration path with existing GIS and Outage Management Systems

“Based on our selection criteria, ENMAC was the clear choice to meet our current and future distribution network management needs,” said C.T. Wan, Powercor Australia’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our project objective is to deliver, on-time and on-budget, a world-class replacement SCADA system that will provide a sound platform for our future DMS development program. During our evaluation, we were particularly impressed with ENMAC’s intuitive user interface that will also allow us to automate a number of our control room functions. Coupled with the excellent working relationship we have developed with GE Smallworld on past projects, I believe this will be a very successful project.”

GE Network Solutions will serve as the prime contractor on this project. It will be responsible for project management, consultancy, software installation, training, and maintenance.
