General Electric acquires German IT service provider, sofion AG
Atlanta (September 19, 2001) - General Electric Company announced that it has acquired sofion AG, an IT service provider based in Freiburg, Germany. With several offices throughout Germany, sofion will be integrated into GE Smallworld, which is part of GE Power Systems’ Energy Management Services business. GE Smallworld used sofion as the preferred sub-contractor for software and services.
The acquisition of sofion will provide GE Smallworld, a leading supplier of network solutions to the global utility, communication and public system marketplace, with significant resources to further develop its ability to offer complete, integrated solutions. The number of IT service employees within GE Smallworld has increased considerably, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the expansion of its services business.
